The Son can do nothing by himself, but He can do what He sees the Father doing.

Jesus said to them.

“I tell you the truth. The Son can do nothing by himself, but He can do what He sees the Father doing. Because, whatever the Father does the Son also does, for the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things He does. He will show even greater things than these, so you might be dumbfounded. The Father raises the dead. The same way, the Son gives life to man. Moreover the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father Who sent Him. I tell you the truth. He who hears My Words and believes in Him Who sent Me has the Eternal Life, and will not be condemned, and he has passed death into life. I tell you the truth. A time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live, for as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in himself. He has given Him authority to judge, because He is the Son of man. Do not be dumbfounded at this. The time is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear His voice and come out, those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. I can do nothing on my own authority. I judge as I hear, and My judgment is righteous, for I do not seek My own will but the Will of the Father Who sent Me. If I testify myself, My testimony is not true. There is Another Who testifies of Me, and I know that His testimony is true. You have sent to John the Baptist, and he has testified to the truth. I do not accept the testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved. John the Baptist was the burning and shining lamp, and you were enjoyed that light for a while. I have the greater testimony than his, for the works that the Father has given Me to finish, and that I am doing testifies that the Father has sent Me. The Father Himself Who sent Me has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice, nor seen His form. You do not have His Words in you, for you do not believe the One Who He sent. You search the Scripture, for in them you think that there is the Eternal Life, but they are testifying My thing. But you do not want to come to Me to have life. I do not accept the honor from men, and I know that you do not have the love of God in you. I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me. But if another comes in his own name, you will receive him. If you receive praise from one another, and do not seek the praise that comes from the Only God? Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom you trust. If you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his letters, how will you believe My Words?”
